The pleasures of boring computing

For the last 7 years:

  • I haven't had a virus, worm or hacker in my computer.
  • My computer hasn't had a single unexplained crash or blue screen.
  • I've never installed anti-virus software.
  • The same Linux installation I've had I've maintained. All I ever do is upgrade periodically as new OS releases go gold, but I've never done a fresh re-install "because the computer just got slow".
  • I've never been asked by the computer to "register" with a company or "acquire" a "license" to operate it.

Of course, "boring computing" leaves me with plenty of time to:
