How to use your Xbox 360 controllers under Fedora

published Sep 27, 2020

Fedora users will be surprised to find out that, since a few releases ago, Fedora no longer ships with support for Xbox 360 controllers (and their companion the USB Xbox wireless adapter) by default.

To restore that support, you must first upgrade your system, then install the package kernel-modules-extra using dnf or the Software tool. Then you must reboot the system to the latest kernel. Finally, a sudo modprobe xpad should bring the receiver online.

Now you can turn on your controller and it'll appear as the first joystick device (/dev/input/js0).
