The RevvedUp theme for WordPress

Ever wanted a theme for your WordPress blog that is beautiful, customizable, standards-compliant, business-friendly and light on your (and your readers’) bandwidth? This is the theme you were looking for!
It’s a fully original piece of artwork, and it’s free for you to use in your blog. And there’s another theme, based on this, called Burnin’ R! As if this wasn’t enough, the latest version not only supports Widgets, but supplies a few great widgets of its own (availability conditional to activation of certain plugins).
This theme is bundled with the great Turbocharged blogging package. Don’t pass the chance of getting this and other themes and plugins in a single package!
Latest version: 1.5.7 (changes)
RevvedUp features
Here’s the lowdown on RevvedUp:
- fully laid out using semantic HTML and CSS stylesheets — no tables used
- business-friendly: ready for Google AdSense and others, with strategic positions in your blog that can be enhanced with banner ad code through the WordPress administrative interface — no need to edit files at all
- Widgets-compatible: you can drag-and-drop items in your sidebar (through the administration panel) to reorder them, and you can add extra items. Plus, the most popular WordPress plugins have been Widgetized so you don’t have to edit files at all.
- semi-fluid three-column layout (content plus two-column sidebar)
- heavily tuned and optimized for search engine relevancy: page titles are always relevant (the front page even shows your blog’s tagline), post content goes first in the HTML source, and semantic markup is used everywhere
- validates as XHTML 1.0 Transitional
- its visual style is completely driven by stylesheets — the theme’s layout can be altered substantially by changing a few lines in the main stylesheet, and users can choose (at least in Firefox) to use the default stylesheet or none at all
- every page carries an explanation (even error pages)
- font sizes are not fixed — even on Internet Explorer, your readers can resize the fonts to help them read better
- it makes use of elegant semitransparent PNGs
- includes shortcut icon and custom pages for directory indexes, Apache error pages, and a complete archive page (these pages automatically integrate themselves when the permalink structure is updated, and show the right hyperlinks, whether URL rewriting is active or not)
- several WordPress plugins have been conditionally integrated — if a plugin is available and enabled, its features will appear automatically, no editing needed
- enhanced with JavaScript events (and still, it does not require JavaScript from your readers)
- well-organized stylesheets for you to peruse and edit
- distributed under the GNU GPL, version 2
- compatible with WordPress 2.0.4 and later versions
- plugins supported out-of-the-box: (not included with the theme)
- bsuite
- Days since birth
- FancyTooltips
- Fold Page List
- Gravatars
- Bread Crumb Trail Generator
- LMB^Box Comment Quicktags
- Optimal Title
- Recent Comments
- Search Reloaded
- Subscribe me
- Rudd-O’s Wordspew (and Jalenack’s Wordspew too)

I’ve installed your theme, and it really looks great. Will give you proper credit once I’ve figured out how to change some of the stuff on it (firefox ref, image and so on).
Thanks
February 1st, 2006 at 17:34
BTW. I can’t find any of the plugins you mentioned.
February 1st, 2006 at 17:48
The plugins do not come with the theme. You have to get them separately.
February 4th, 2006 at 1:13
I’m testing out the template at http://silverblue.thesilverblue.com/test - I’ve installed the theme, installed the plug-in, activated the plugin, but still get a 404 error when I click on “Complete Archives”. Other than that, so far it rocks! Any idea what I may be doing wrong? I’m using WP 2.0.1 (fresh install for this).
February 4th, 2006 at 7:52
Ok, I think I’ve found my problem, but I’m not sure how to fix it. The blog I plan on using the theme on is based on [root url]/wp and the test blog is (as shown above) at [root url]/test, while the plug-in thinks it should be in the [root url] (as described in the readme file). How can I get the plugin to recognize that the blog isn’t in the root?
February 4th, 2006 at 8:45
For what it’s worth, the archives feature isn’t working over at Edwin’s site either. The theme is pulling the archives into the “header” function properly (from what I can tell), but it’s either not talking to the plug-in (which I have activated, deactivated, reactivated to make sure it took), or not calling the “content” section into the main page.
I also tried this on my main blog (http://thesilverblue.com/wp) which I then took the template back off of because of the “Complete Archives” not functioning.
February 4th, 2006 at 14:05
Please read the README included with the template in order to find out what’s needed.
The template is not supposed to be installed without changing a few things.
February 4th, 2006 at 19:08
I DID read the README file to find out what was needed…that’s why I knew it had to have the plug in, which I installed and activated.
The problem is that it doesn’t work regardless of how I activate the plug in. That’s what I was trying to tell you. It will not activate the archive page. Everything else works as expected.
Your README file says This theme requires a plugin which enables the archive page (location hard-coded at /archives/) , various error pages and directory indexes. The plugin is included and is named RevvedUp-plugin.php. Deploy it to your plugins folder and activate it.
It deploys the correct error 404 page, so I’m not sure why it’s not working on the archives. That’s why I posted the question — I don’t know of any other blogs using the theme except you and Edwin, and it’s not working on his or mine. Since you programmed it, I thought you’d be the place to ask what might be going on, since I had tried everyting I could think of to correct the error before turning to you.
February 4th, 2006 at 19:09
By the way, when I say correct error 404 page, I mean the correct error 404 that the plugin creates.
February 4th, 2006 at 20:13
Ok, I’ve created the “page” (thanks to searching on google; WP mentions nothing about it in their wiki.
However. http://silverblue.thesilverblue.com/test/archives/ works perfectly
http://thesilverblue.com/wp/archives/ gives a Folder Contents - Direct access to this page is not allowed
February 4th, 2006 at 20:13
I just got a host and am transferring my domain names. The one i am using now is wonderlandornot.net
my blogspot site is down again so I needed to change. I installed wp via fantastico , it comes with the hosting and when I go to change the theme there are several different ares to change not one area and I do not know where to put anything in order for it to work. I know how to change some of the code to ears your stuff and can get rid of our picture and would like to use this templete but is there something I am missing about this installation?
February 7th, 2006 at 13:43
Verion 1.3 is AWESOME! Worked right out of the archive, easy to follow ReadMe — this thing is incredible. Thanks so much Rudd-O. I’ve sent a PayPal donation your way. Keep up the great work!
February 7th, 2006 at 20:26
Thanks to you, silver blue!
February 8th, 2006 at 16:22
For now I had to turn of this great theme. For some weird reason it doesn’t look right. All contents is all garbelled up
I’m trying to re-install this though.
February 8th, 2006 at 16:41
Okay, the new download seems to have fixed it.
Thanks again for this great theme.

Great!

Wow. Another update.
goes to install it asap
February 18th, 2006 at 1:58
This is a very nice theme. My paws do a dance for you! My mom wants to know if you have plans to make it css validation compliant? I know picky picky. she would use it and modify it and have fun with it but it fails the css test. bummer. It is a wonderful piece of work - kudos.

February 18th, 2006 at 19:18
The CSS validation errors I detected were consequence of using -moz attributes, which I do not plan on turning off… sorry!
February 18th, 2006 at 19:55
My mom did not figure ya would. Ever so hopeful . . . your theme is refreshing and original - heck it is better than a scooby snack!
February 19th, 2006 at 7:55
Thanks for checking my site out and for your theme. I think your doing some real nice work and creating styles that are not just the everyday blog look. Keep up the good work. I had some trouble getting it to make the second sidebar column in IE but I am sure that was my fault because it was working here in IE. Anyway, This one is nice though I think I need to learn a lot more coding…lol
February 19th, 2006 at 16:21
And again another nice update. You keep us busy with this
goes to copy his ad-sense codes first this time

Finally found some good infomation on the subject.
February 27th, 2006 at 17:48
Hi, First wanted to say that this the most attractive theme I have found after looking at hundreds of them. I have installed 1.4.2 and it went very well, except for 2 items, both of which are on the readme.txt:
1) “Now go down to the calendar, and click the “Complete archives” hyperlink that appears below it. If you see the complete archive page appear, everything is OK.”
Not working, saying it cannot be found.
2)”Try browsing directly to the new file’s URL through your Web browser, or clicking it on your directory index of “wp-content”. You should see an error page titled “Forbidden”. If you see it, everything is okay.” Set header.php to 000 and it is giving the following warning:”Warning: Unknown(/home/smartvi/public_html/wp-content/header.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in Unknown on line 0
Warning: Unknown(/home/smartvi/public_html/wp-content/header.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in Unknown on line 0
Warning: (null)(): Failed opening ‘/home/smartvi/public_html/wp-content/header.php’ for inclusion (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in Unknown on line 0″
Other than that, everything is OK. Any pointers on what I need to do to solve these? Thanks for a great theme.

Dude, where did you untar the theme? Header.php should have been in wp-content/themes/RevvedUp/
March 11th, 2006 at 4:14
Hi! Rudd…yeap the header.php under wp-content/themes/revvedup/. Instead right now inside
your website under the “Leave a comment” there is error coming out state “Line and paragraph
breaks automatic, e-mail address never displayed, HTML allowed:< a href=” ” title=”">
”So maybe my Internet Explorer problem or what, but I try with Mozilla it the same.
Sorry to trouble you. Any suggestion for me.

Tried the latest version, but getting all kind of errors. Switched back to basic for now
Hope to have this fixed asap.

I am using this theme also, and I’ve made some of chinese Mod,
you can take a look at http://blog.theoneworkshop.com/
April 6th, 2006 at 14:25
I took a look, and it looks good, Kimot!
April 7th, 2006 at 23:55
Nice work on the theme. I like it’s layout more then anything I’d seen yet. Though I made quite a few css/graphic changes to suit my needs, it’s the base of our WordPress driven site. People, feel free to stop by and see a differant take on Rudd-o’s layout.
April 8th, 2006 at 9:45
Out of all the WP themes, I think yours is the best. I have extensively modified version 1.0.10 and it looks great except I am having the same problem with 404 error on Complete Archives even after activating the RevvedUp plugin. I even tried installing version 1.4.8 without any modifications and still get the same Object Not Found error. I am running this on localhost for now so it is not available for view on an external host. Could this be part of the problem? Other than this, congratulations on a great theme. Since my current version is working well, I hate to upgrade to a later version as I will then have to make all the same code mods again. If I upload the files to an external host, will send you a link and donation. Thanks for any help you can provide.
April 8th, 2006 at 18:30
Thanks for the great theme, Rudd-O! I’ve made one correction thus far (still tailoring). In ads.php, change ‘$burninr’ to ‘$revvedup’ in the first two functions, so that the top sidebar ads display. Looking very nice - thanks again
April 11th, 2006 at 12:12
Well, since 1.1 and above, both themes do not need any plugins enabled, but they sure do need you to update your permalink structure and update your .htaccess file, otherwise the archives page is a 404.
April 11th, 2006 at 12:13
There’s a way to upgrade without losing modifications. It involves using diff to get the differences between any two versions of the theme (operation that generates a patch), and afterwards applying the patch to your current modified theme. 99% of the time, the patch hits it right and you have all the new goodies without losing your mods.
April 11th, 2006 at 12:19
The latest theme dispenses the two top sidebar ads, in favor of WordPress text Widgets.
April 13th, 2006 at 17:46
I love the look of this theme!!! Very very nice work! I’ve got it up and running–but I did replace your picture with one of my own, hope you don’t mind, lol!
I’ve only run into one small problem, and I’m sure it’s something small that I’m not seeing. My blog title doesn’t display in the header at the top. Any Ideas? Do I need to create a graphic for this?
Thanks again for a great theme!
April 17th, 2006 at 12:16
Very impressive web layout. Not everyone has to agree but I sure do. I set your site as one of my favorites.Keep it real :-).
April 24th, 2006 at 9:34
Manuel. I chose your template because of the clear explanation you give of the benefits, unlike other themers who just show you what it looks like. Brave to you.
The favicon is not showing and the Complete Archives link goes to a page that says Resource Not Found.
site is http://romanticlove.organizedr.com/
I would also like to have a list of Categories and Recent Posts show up in the sidebar section. Are those options available? It seems those are important functions to have so that people can navigate around…
Thank you.
May 4th, 2006 at 7:46
It is a good theme except that the right hand side two columns seem to be not so in order. How can I align it so they look tidy?
May 20th, 2006 at 14:08
Just back checking out what you have been working on. It looks like youve been pretty busy with the theme. I see you added quite a bit since last time I was here, widgets and all. Keep at it I will stop by more often once I get caught up.
August 6th, 2006 at 9:16
Very cool template…I love it. Thanks!
August 12th, 2006 at 18:04
Did you ever try to get the transparency in the right side of the page to work in Internet Explorer? On my computer, the lower half of your photo is blocked out by opaque boxes in IE (the sidebar “boxmeup” up stuff is not transparent). In Firefox, it looks perfect, just like your screen shot.
August 14th, 2006 at 2:41
You need IE7 to make it look transparent. Sorry!
August 21st, 2006 at 14:13
You say that it is standards compliant but I show 44 warnings on my Tidy plugin for Safari. Will these be fixed any time soon?

This must be the best theme I have ever used, to easy with the conditionally integrated plugins - excellent work.
Regarding the plugins, does the AutoMeta plugin still work with this theme?
I have been trying to get it to go with no luck.
September 23rd, 2006 at 8:15
This theme is awesome, I love the way it looks! I just read your post that the transparency only works in IE7, not previous versions. I’m running IE7 so didn’t realize my menu’s would be difficult to see for people still using IE6.
Anyway, my question is in regards to the comments section. Is there a way to set it so that to either leave a comment, or view existing comments, not in a pop up window?
November 5th, 2006 at 2:17
Hola! this new theme is fantastic!
In now time I updated to WP 2.05 and installed Revved and was ready to, I found a minor glitch however (at least in my install), as th sidebar widget cannot be configured.
If I try do drag and drop in order to conigure the two sidebars, nothing happens, no matter how hard I try.
Any suggestion?
Please help making it my own, I’ll play Lotto and if I win I’ll make you reach, I promise!

I have solved a few issues with the installation but now I ha a much more severe one.
Every time I post or modify something, I get the following error message coming from a php module:
Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/pjl/public_html/wp-content/themes/RevvedUp/widgets.php:1) in /home/pjl/public_html/wp-includes/pluggable-functions.php on line 269
Any clues?

This last issue also nailed. Easy fix.
There was a blank space just in front of the first php statement in the index.php file.
Most probably my bad while adding some code to the file.
Thank you for quick response, I ought you this one Rudd-O!
November 20th, 2006 at 1:50
What I like in this one is that I don’t have to edit the files when I add wordpress plugins as these have been widgetized.
Great work here. Thanks.

Wow! Amazing design. I would like to use this theme for my next project(not my linked site), but I have a few questions.
I tried the theme but there is no blog title on the page once I change the background.jpg. How can I place a blog title in the header and make it clickable? It would help with the navigation a lot.
When I insert my own backgound.jpg, the image goes very high up the screen. Is there a way to keep it down a bit so it does not interfere with the header too much?
Great work on the great design, I’m super excited to get this theme going.
January 5th, 2007 at 18:41
Adsense works fine here but overall its too crowded.

WordPress: 7 Interesting Three Column Themes…
I’m a fan of three column themes since I feel they allow more space for navigation, categorisation and of course, advertising. But they have the downside of making your blog seem more cluttered than it should be, and have been rumored to have low…

What’s the deal with this theme and WP 2.3?? Especially with the new bsuite 3.01 now released? you get errors on the manage page every time now:
