Supercharged has a new logo and it sports a brand new site

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

Partly to convey a more professional image, and partly because it’s just plain fun, I completely changed all Supercharged-related Web pages into a new template.

I also designed a logo (which is quite simple) and a button. I also re-did the sales pitch text on the front page (because, frankly, the old text was just too long and too many words for too little sales) — I wonder if not having done that for long has really hurt Supercharged’s sales potential.

And, finally, Supercharged is a name of its own. No more “Supercharged WordPress”.

Supercharged WordPress 1.7.0 is out, with Widgets support and new plugins

Monday, April 3rd, 2006

This weekend was WordPress weeekend. In fact, I could barely keep up with the tons of juicy announcements - plugins, themes and more developments - around WordPress. But I finally managed to keep up with the pressure. After hours and hours of hard, tiresome work, I can finally feel satisfied and proud to present to you: Supercharged WordPress 1.7.0.

And what’s so new about it? Let’s make a quick list:

  • The first and most important change was the addition of the Widgets plugin. The Widgets plugin is all the rage, and in all fairness, its fame is well-earned, because bloggers can reorganize their theme sidebars through the Widgets plugin effortessly, with a couple of drags and drops. Of course, merely including Widgets was the easy part: the themes distributed with Supercharged WordPress also had to be updated. So four new versions of themes now have Widgets compatibility: the default, classic, RevvedUp and the gorgeous Burnin’ R all have full Widgets support.
  • Multimedia capabilities in Supercharged WordPress have been enhanced considerably. If you’re looking to podcast audio, or serve remixes to your visitors, that’s much easier now that every hyperlink to an MP3 is automatically turned into a nifty, lightweight audio player which lets readers listen to your songs immediately, thanks to the Taragana’s del.icio.us audio player. Of course, the Audio player plugin from 1pixelout, which is much nicer (although heavier) is also included.
  • The gorgeous Lightbox 2 effect is now included in Supercharged WordPress. Whereas gorgeous galleries were previously limited to people with deep HTML skills and Flickr account owners, you can boast the same range of beautiful effects in your WordPress-powered image galleries and posts.
  • The Sociable plugin was updated to its latest version, and now includes a much wider selection of social bookmarking sites for you to choose from and offer to your readers.
  • A Contact form plugin made the quality cut as well. Now you can have posts with contact forms so people can contact you directly, without the need of posting your precious (and spam-vulnerable) e-mail address in your blog.
  • Finally, on the technical side: SEO improvements come in the form of the Permalink redirect plugin, which lets you tell your blog to automatically redirect visitors that don’t come through the officially sanctioned permalinks. This lets search engines make more sense out of your blog, and avoid duplicate listings.

So, if this has you interested, I’ve got news for you. You probably know that all of this can be yours mostly for free. But the question remains: are you willing to sacrifice an entire weekend, like I did, or are you willing to shell out only fifty bucks to get all this (and much, much more) in a single, convenient package along with free hands-on support? If I were you, I would honestly shell out fifty dollars and spend my weekend with a girl. So, take the plunge and get Supercharged WordPress today.

Supercharged WordPress 1.6 is out

Tuesday, March 7th, 2006

Yes, 1.6 is the new version number for Supercharged WordPress. Here’s the list of changes:

  • Integrated Gallery2 plugin
  • Integrated My Tube plugin
  • Added cache-flush plugin
  • Added lightbox plugin (this one is fantastic) with additional caching fixes so page loading is faster
  • WordPress AutoLink was updated to automatically add rel="lightbox" to all hyperlinked images, and now has a mass AutoLink Manage screen
  • Fixed LMM^Box File Press to use new settings from WordPress 2.0
  • Added ezStatic plugin (though it sometimes fails to work)
  • Updated included themes to the latest version
  • Fixed Search and replace plugin to use the proper URL for the search and replace AJAX action
  • Integrated the super-configurable Sirius theme
  • Improved the In-Series plugin to let you designate selected categories to be series as well, all via the standard category management screen

Wow, that’s six new plugins in a single package, two updated themes which integrate the new plugins, and several bug fixes! Sure worth of a new minor release. Thus, I present to you: Supercharged WordPress 1.6.

New versions of RevvedUp and Burnin’ R

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

This joint announcement has the pleasure to inform you that both RevvedUp (now at version 1.4.6) and Burnin’ R (now at version 1.0.7) have new improvements, and this is a joint announcement basically because both themes have improved in the same ways.

To begin with, both themes have gained two new ad slots for each sidebar, above the fold. Each sidebar has a new ad space which, if enabled, will show ads right at the top of the chosen sidebar.

In addition to that, the famous In Series and Countdown plugins have been added as well. As if that weren’t enough, the AdSense Logger, the newest Related posts and the Content negotiation plugin have been tested and work just fine.

Both new versions of the themes fix a bug in the footer which could cause invalid HTML under certain conditions (basically, when URLs contain ampersands).

Both themes have a fixed shoutbox size now, to avoid the problem of long lines messing up the layout.

Finally, a bug was fixed in both themes which could lead to bad rendering when WordPress serves pages with the right XHTML content type.

That’s it for today. Get your copies now, while they’re still hot! Or, if you want to get them in one fell swoop, with all the plugins, try Supercharged WordPress.
