I have 4 Model M's and 2 Unicomp's. They are simply the best keyboards going. I realize they are not for everyone, they are noisy, oversized and ugly. But there is nothing else out there that compares.

I don't get the fanatics when it comes to model M. Sure, everyone have their views on good keyboards, but most other people tend to realize that different keyboards fit different people. I for instance look at the screen when I am writing, because I am not a secretary and I rarely if ever have to enter anything from a written source, so I have no reason to look elsewhere. For me a greater level of resistance would provide nothing but a decrease in my possible typing speed. An audible click twice per keypress would provide nothing but disturbing my wife when she is resting. And I must say I surely do not need feedback as to if the key has registered. If I press it, I press it all the way down... if that doesn't make it register then I need a new keyboard. Every 2-4 years I get a new keyboard for one reason or another. Maybe over an entire lifetime I'd save a penny or two by getting a longer lasting model, but I am not THAT desperate to save money. To me personally it is not worth the downsides that keyboard has to the way I use a computer. Besides, as a person who spends the majority of my waken hours in front of a computer... A flat keyboard is lightyears ahead when it comes to comfort.

Amen, Brother!

I was able to find several Ms in the warehouse at my old job (a later 1992 model, mind you). They had been in dusty storage for many years, but once connected were still as loud, dependable and delightful to use. I brought one home and used the other for everyday tasks. The others were divided amongst the ones in the know.

I have yet to find a better keyboard, cheaper or not.

They don't make'em like that no more. Now get off my lawn, you lazy kids!
