Hey, wackos: evolution is true, abortion is not murder

And here’s one small piece of the evidence.

Have you seen pictures from an “echo” in a pregnant mother? Well, if you haven’t, this is what you’d see:

Stages of pregnancy

This image was taken from an article in Pharyngula, a science blog. There is, undoubtedly, no question that all animals evolved from a common ancestor, as evidenced by the series of pictures. Animal embryos are nearly identical in all species.

Oh, you’re probably seeing the small human at the bottom right of the picture and wondering is it inhuman to abort that?. That’s for you to decide, but you should be aware that, even at the late embrionary stage depicted in that corner, the small “baby” (if you would like to call it that) does not feel anything at all.

Thus, I don’t see how aborting an embryo could be construed as “homicide”. Otherwise we’d be calling tumor-removal surgeries “homicides” as well (seeing as an embryo has about the same thought and feel capabilities of a tumor…).

On the matter of whether the embryo has a soul or not… well, let’s just say I don’t believe in “souls”. But it definitely isn’t a person, and it should definitely not be regarded as one. Women wanting to carry their pregnancies on should obviously be allowed to — and women wanting to terminate theirs should have the same right as well.

In general it can be dangerous to create opinion only based on what you can see.

    embryo = tumor ????

    Basic:

Embryo does not equal tumor. But the removal of an unwanted embryo is ethically equivalent to the removal of a tumor.

It doesn’t make sense to afford an embryo the same protection that a child or an adult has.

Why? Because it doesn’t feel anything. Because it cannot express anything. Because it can’t think. Because it’s the biological equivalent of a tadpole. Because it lacks all the qualities of what we call “human”.

Embryo != person. Maybe further down the road, when the embryo becomes a foetus with a fully developed neurological subsystem, we can argue about the ethics of pregnancy termination, but not at the embryo stage.

I’m all for mothers wanting to keep their pregnancies, but mothers wanting to terminate their pregnancies should have the right to go ahead as well. Fortunately, in most civilized societies, they do, despite all the yelling and gnashing of teeth from people who like to meddle in others’ affairs.

All we have to form opinion is what we see and discover through science, life and experimentation.

Besides, we only have what we see to guide us in the process of forming opinions for ourselves. Rather, it’s what you refuse to see that’s the problem.

Finally: no opinion is dangerous. Only actions carry danger potentials. Literally, sticks and stones may break my bones, but words and thoughts can’t hurt me — or you, unless you let them.

Just because all these embryos look the same doesn’t mean they came from a common ancestor…but a common creator.

    Justin:

I’m sorry you’re such an ignorant klutz, but understanding this elementary biologic fact is not rocket science. The fact that those embryos look the same means precisely that they have come from a common ancestor. We’ve known this for at least 150 years.

DNA analysis is another way to prove the ancestry, and DNA analyses have proven again and again to correlate with what we now know to be common ancestry. Phylogenetic trees based on DNA analysis are now used to organize all the known branches in biology.

In contrast, the only “evidence” for a “common creator” is your lunatic religious beliefs. And those batshit crazy religious beliefs are proving to be quite effective in isolating you from the truth.

In other words, just because “you say so” and “you feel it in your tummy” does not make it true. What else are you going to “debunk” now? Oxygen as a comburent? Germ theory? Gravitational theory?

Fuck, you guys keep getting more lunatic with every day that passes.

You’re doing it wrong. Try harder.
