About me
Hey there! I’m Manuel, a twentysomething engineer / blogger / Linux fan with over fifteen years computing experience, 10+ years developing software, 9+ years deconstructing Linux, 5+ years of college and no shortage of sarcasm.
My goal is to continue being happy. I write here because it pleases me, because I crave the attention, and because it’s a great résumé builder. If by any chance you find anything useful here, please report it to the nearest police station.
Getting in touch with me
For professional inquiries, there’s the online résumé (curriculum vitae, Lebenslauf) section (yes, I might be available for hire in your country). There’s a separate page that lists how to contact me and career profiles at several high-profile sites.
Oh, feel free to leave a note as a page comment.
On the social networking world
I’m everywhere :-(. Feel free to explore:
- see my Spock summary (they found me without my intervention)
- add me to your Hi5 roster
- read my profile at MySpace
- look for me at OkCupid
- see what I’ve been up to through Mugshot
- see my professionan profile at LinkedIn
More about this site
I established this site on April 1999 as a repository of my thoughts, ideas and writings, and it’s been steadily growing ever since. Like any other Web site, about 5% of the articles here have been more or less “hits” around the Web, with the rest being quickies and fluff pieces.
More about me
This is me. I go by the nickname Rudd-O, a nickname whose story I don’t feel like explaining all over again. I like to spend my time partying, programming, reading, sharing with my friends and watching TV series.
I was born in 1979. That makes me fairly young, or fairly old, depending, naturally, on your age. Just so you know, I published my first post here when I was 21.
My passions
What do I do for fun? Clubbing, reading, listening to dance music (as loud as possible), drinking, going places, making free software, discussing transcendental subjects, driving (I tend to drive above the speed limit, but don’t we all?).
Things that make me angry
I do not suffer fools gladly. I am inconsiderate to people who ask questions but don’t want to learn new things. I have a great deal of contempt for people who at least don’t tolerate reading or thinking for themselves. I am not a fan of people who drive slowly or poorly, especially when they take up the leftmost lane of the road (don’t they always?).
Things that encourage me
To be completely fair and balanced about me, I should recognize the following is true as well: I have admiration for people who think for themselves, people with strong moral values and convictions (even if they are in direct contradiction to mine), and people who read and illustrate themselves.
A couple more things I didn’t know where to file
Though my native language is Spanish, I speak, write and read English and German (English fluently, German not so much anymore).
Some people say a second or third language is “not worth it” I’ve always looked down to people who’ve said that. Foreign languages are windows into different cultures, offering an entirely different mindset for us to learn. Even if you don’t get to use a foreign language in its birth country, you’ll still be gaining valuable insights and parallel ways of thinking. That alone is a persistent reminder of how important it is for an individual to grow as a person.
I hope you enjoyed this site as much as I enjoyed having you over.
